Georgia Allison, a tradesman's daughter, has always had her pretty head
filled with romantic notions. When she recieves an unexpected proposal
of marriage from Sir Myles Dynham of Brentland, it can hardly be refused.

But the marriage turns out rather differently from her expectations. When
she meets other the other members of the family she is quickly caught up
in their loves and quarrels, first in North Devon then in the London of 1815.
