Secrets of a womans's soul

LUTANGA SHABA is a Zimbabwean born of Malawian immigrants. A lawyer by profession, Lutanga also holds a postgraduate qualification in Policy Studies. She founded and is currently the Executive Director of The WomenÕs Trust, a Harare based non-governmental organisation, which provides personal empowerment and leadership development training for women. This is LutangaÕs first novel. In this gripping story, Lutanga Shaba takes an honesty look back to the township life of the seventies in the then capital city of Rhodesia. We follow the narratorÕs life, into a dark abyss of frustrated hopes and lost dreams brought about by extreme poverty and the tragic battle for survival by a mother and daughter who share the same secret shame but find it impossible to help each other. With a candidness that is brutal and yet touching, Lutanga Shaba narrates a tale of strength and hope in despair. She makes no apologies nor seeks sympathy as she tells a motherÕs story through the daughterÕs eyes, delving into the reality of being denied choices, hiding shame, and dealing with life after testing positive for HIV. Swinging you between laughter and tears, and demanding reflection on how our society deals with the HIV and Aids epidemic, this novel leaves you moved and challenged.. A must read for all those who live in todayÕs world.
