Leadership is an increasingly important and topical subject within the South African context. The purpose of this textbook is to identify the principles of leadership in contemporary business organisations and to develop students’ understanding of the relationship between leadership and management, and that this is critical to achieve organisational goals. The textbook covers contemporary issues in practising leadership for success. It emphasises the importance of effective leadership, including understanding that leadership skills are necessary in modern organisations and appreciating the role of leaders in workplace relations and in teams. Furthermore, it deals with the importance of leadership ethics and the formulation of leadership standards, as well as the evaluation of leadership performance. The new edition includes a focus on strategy and leadership. It also considers how notions of leadership have changed, particularly post-Covid, and what this means for the way in which groups and teams are organised, and how they are managed and led. Examples and case studies have also been updated. The second edition of Leadership is aimed at senior undergraduate students at universities and universities of technology or those doing a relevant postgraduate qualification.
