Letter to the Candidate As a candidate intending to go through a Business Studies examination, you are advised to take note of the following: 1. You should thoroughly exhaust the syllabus as laid down by the KNEC. 2. When attempting practice questions and the examination itself:   (a) Read the paper and any special instructions keenly. Do not let the first impression of the paper upset you.   (b) The examination questions are usually divided into:     (i) Short questions. These questions should be given the first preference because once completed in good time, the candidate gains confidence and ample opportunity to tackle the rest of the paper.     (ii) Long questions. These questions require more time. Effort should be made to ensure that they are adequately answered within the remaining time. Confidence to tackle questions in minimum possible time can be built through practice. 3. Avoid spending too much time on one question. Apportion the time allowed so that the required number of questions are attempted. For example, for a five-question paper on 2½ hours, each question should be given at least 30 minutes.If the balance sheet totals in a given question do not agree then leave it. Do not waste time on one question just to find the cause of the difference in balance sheet totals. 4. Prior to attempting any question, read it carefully and be sure that you fully understand what is required. Then systematically attempt the question, paying attention to proper presentation of your work. A carelessly composed paper could easily create unfavourable impression. 5. Concentrate on maximising your marks and leave consideration of passing or failing until afterwards. This may help you to avoid panic.
